take note of the trail and go back with XJ. As usual, remove salt before storage.
So you're suggesting have insurance on two cars in the winter as well as on a bike and the XJ in the summer? You must be crazy .
And also thinking of a little DIY project.. as you can see in my avatar I have the goldish/silverish trim... was thinking of getting just a spray can of bedliner taping it off and doing that part myself.
All the trim that's that gold/silverish color is what I'd want to do. I know a lot of salt will spray up on there in the winter and it's just easier to keep it off with bedliner.
Though I'll still wash/wax often in the winter obviously.

That lower area of the body gets the most salt, so with the spray stuff, I'm thinking you should be ok. I have my XJ on 'limited use' insurance, so I can't go over 5000 miles a year now. Bike is DD in the summertime (60mpg) and civic is the salty sacraficial lamb, on PLPD and no insurance in summer (I use the XJ in summer rain assuming I'm not already on the bike and in for a free shower)

Called the local Ziebart's today to see whether or not they do tape off the transfer case, exhaust, shocks etc.. and they said that they usually don't but they could if I wanted?
Even if I did ask to have it taped off, do you think they would if they usually dont? Somehow I doubt it.
It really depends on how many coats you put on and what all your doing.
For the flares you need to get a paint that has a FLEX AGENT in it, or else it will crack over time. They are rubber/plastic and you need a paint that is meant for that, it will have an added flex agent in it. You'll also want to scuff them up a bit (not a lot or it will show), but they need to be "ruffed up" a bit so that the paint will adhear better.
Another option is to just rip them off.
I can't tell by your aviator, but if your XJ has the side moldings (also the rubber type matarial), I'd recomend ripping that all off if your going to paint it. When I did mine I used a heat gun, it than came right off and I used some WD40 (actually used Goo-Gone) to remove the adheasive. Than I sanded the door area that I was going to paint down a bit than sprayed it.
Here is a VERY old pic of my XJ to show what I'm taking about. 2nd pic is more recent after molding has been removed and sprayed.
Alright so a few questions then. The flares, the moldings and the stupid flap under the front bumper there.
How do I get them out? If I understand right, the lower door moldings are just held on by adhesive so I'd just have to heat them up (but I don't have a heat gun or anything.) When I looked at the part under the bumper there it just looked like it had a few screws and some plastic parts holding it on. And the flares just some screws? And what about the black plastic under the flares, will that need to be trimmed or taken off?
If you have got someone that has a hair dryer that might work instead of a heat gun.
The plastic under the flares you can remove. You might be able to keep it if you trimmed it too, but I can't recal for sure. To remove the flares, they have like 5-6 screw and bolts that you take out and they should come off.
