Painting over a powdercoated finish

Can you paint over a powdercoated finish?  I was planning on scuffing the finish with a ScotchBrite pad, cleaning it with laquer thinner and priming it with a self etching primer.  Anyone have experience with painting over powdercoat paint?

I've done it a lot with various parts and have never had an issue to date. Heck 90% of the time I simply just wipe it than spray it (no prep really at all).

I wouldnt' waist your time with primer, your not painting bare metal. It's already got a good base with the powder coat.

I figured since there are some small rust spots it might pay to sand them down, and the self etching primer would give the new paint something to "grip" to as opposed to the relativly hard powdercoat finish.

Well if you have exposed metal than yes I'd primer those spots.
