Death Wobble question

I was just underneath my truck and noticed that on the front swaybar the drivers side bushing has come out of the bracket. Is it possible that this could be the cause of a death wobble?

DW is a situation where the front axle begins oscillating with such violence that control of the Jeep is difficult until slowed down, and the entire vehicle shakes to the point you feel it will come apart.

It can be caused by many things. Some of the most common are;

- Bad TRE's on the tie rod.
- Unbalanced wheels/tires.
- Bad bushings in the control arms.
- Bad trackbar mount/bushing/tre.
- Bad balljoints (not as likely though).

DW is not known to have 1 specific cause, and also can be caused by several things all at once. I will have to say that in my opinion, having the swaybar undone will not cause DW. It may of helped lead to it, but it is not the root cause of it.

Your problem sounds like a textbook explanation of Death Wobble. I personally have never experienced it, but like I said, it has been described EXACTLY like that.

The person that I know that had DW replaced his tie rod ends. I am pretty sure that solved the problem.

Good luck! Oh, and be careful out there!!! biggrin.gif

That is death wobble without a doubt.  Some people like me, had it to the point when you would get up to about 45 to 50 it would do that.  I think that in the early stages it start out like you describe it, only when hitting bumps.  If you continue to let it go, it will continue to get worse and happen more often.
