I'm guessing the orange trail is out then, as I don't think I can make some of the up hills in muck. Don't even know how much fun the quarry will be if it is raining Saturday, as traction on wet rocks is limited.

Any clue if the creek is still driveable, or will the water be too high?

the only questionable spot was orange.  the creek is actually low, the drop off of one of the tubes is to dirt, and the other is to about 2in of water.  all the trails were awesome like usual.  im not gonna let a little possible rain change my plans.

Anyone going to this event from the NW Indiana area? There is a group of XJ's meeting up near Rt.41 and Rt.30 in Schererville on Sat. morning, in the parking lot near Hooters. We planned on going down to Badlands before i even knew about this event. So it will be awesome to see a whole bunch of XJ's and MJ's down there. If anyone would want to meet up with us as a convoy we will be meeting in the before mentioned area at about 6am. Cant wait to meet all you guys! Only 4 days away!

We (one XJ, one MJ) are planning to arrive around or before 5pm Friday. Should give us about 2 hours to set up camp and cook supper before it gets dark out.

Say Wade, if I beat you there, want me to get an electric site and everyone just sign in as a guest of mine? $3 per person per night that way, like you and your father did last time.

I might have to work Saturday am. I could possibly be there around...say noonish. Are you all still planning on meeting in the parking lot by the lake? Would you be there around noon to eat so if I can make it you might be there then?

Also, I've seen the orange trail while on my quad, and I can tell you I'm not going to take the Jeep down in that! Sorry I have to drive it to work Monday morning. So if in the afternoon you will be going out somewhere not as "hazardous" I will try my best to be there.

Again, sorry for being a wuss, I like to have some fun, but not tear stuff up. smile.gif It's a DD, not a trail rig.

typically we head back to camp around 12:30 or 1 for lunch.  then we always went to orange trail, but i doubt we are doing that.  maybe hit the easiest trail, green?  or maybe just go wherever.

Firehawk, you have a CB radio? Or a FRS/GMRS walkie talkie?

I will likely eat lunch at the campground, but don't know when.

After what Wade said, and now you, I don't think the orange trail would be a wise decision. My MJ is a DD also, and it has to make a 400 mile trip home.

And Wade, sounds like a plan. How much power will you draw at night, though, as both myself and my coworker will have a space heater in the tent, assuming we can run two without tripping a breaker. It is a long and difficult process to talk yourself into getting out of a warm sleeping bag when the rest of your tent is around freezing...

If the orange trail is that bad, the green one may actually be fun.

When you say camp, do you mean the campground?  Will they allow someone not camping to enter the campground?confused

Yeah I've got a FRS/GMRS radio, use it while hunting.  I guess we could pick a channel, and I could call you when I get there. But as I said, I can't be 100% sure I can get off work at 10 am.

Man I sound like I'm raining on everybody's parade.  You all go where you intended, and don't let me and my DD stop you.  I want to do more than drive down a gravel road, but wow, the orange trail at least at the start by the entry road is way too much for me.

I can monitor channel 12 on the FRS. I'm guessing we'll use channel 12 on the CB as well (we did last time), but that won't affect you.

I have only been there once before and had a blast on the orange trail, at least until I overheated. But it was dry then. I run a 4.5" lift and 29" tires under a long bed Comanche. Don't care about the rear bumper and don't care about the bed, but I'd like to keep the rest of the truck looking relatively damage free. I already replaced the entire front end including fenders once since the PO broadsided a deer at 55mph before I bought it. Don't want to have to do it again.

I had fun in the quarry, and really enjoyed running the creek. Besides that any place else will be fun for me because it'll be new.

And making a left hand turn here:

I just put the cap back on the truck to help keep gear dry if I hit rain on the way there or back. I'll take it off in the campground and use it to store my stuff under it.

So Wade, if you show up too soon after I get there, my truck will look a little different, but the teal ps fender will still be a dead giveaway. There should also be a brown XJ with about 4 or 5" lift and 31s with me.
