Unit bearing

Well it looks like at least the driver side is bad and the passenger is not far behind. So really my question is where is the best place to buy new unit bearings. I found some on ebay, which make me wonder for 50 bucks. I checked advanced auto and they are 150ish there. Anyone buy ebay hubs before and have good luck with them? Its just a trail rig so, in a way hate to spend mega bucks on hubs, but also hate to get some cheapos that won't last more then a trip either.

the advance ones are expensive, but i've had the one i replaced on for about 2 years now, and the damn thing isnt even completely rusted yet.. lol if it's trail rig only you could try em, but i guess for me i'd rather just do it once and never have to worry about it again instead of have a 50$ unit go out on me within a few years.. also, unless you have one, have fun finding the 36mm axle nut socket.. it took me almost a week to find somewhere with one..

I got my socket at advanced or auto zone, whichever I went to first.  Guess that I was just lucky.

I believe I already have the socket - attempt to take nut off once before and busted my 1/2" craftsman breaker bar.  Now upgraded to a 3/4" one so hopefully it will hold up.  I checked advance - $150 for a hub there, rockauto for the same one is $91.  I may, just for the heck of it get one off ebay and get one good one and change both out and run a comparison test.  The ebay one is 30 bucks plus 15 or so for shipping.

Well I struck out trying to find a 3/4" drive 36mm socket.  Found 1/2 drive ones, but I busted the last 1/2 breaker bar on this hub so wanted to get a bigger drive.  I checked the conversion - 1 7/16 is the english size for 36MM - and thanks TSC - got one for 10 bucks and some change.  Finally with the help of a 4' cheater pipe got the hub nut off.  So I am going to try this as a test.  Ordering one of the cheaply priced ones off of ebay - same part number for the Timken or National bearings, and then will buy another from like Rockauto or something - being as mentioned either the Timken - 92 and change or National 118 and change.  Then see how they both hold up and let ya all know.  The ebay seller is from Chicago and has 100% rating with 684 sales so if they do work out that would be great.

wow - fast shipping, course I guess coming from chi-town it shouldn't take long.  Came this afternoon - actually feels a lot heavier then the old unit bearing I took out.  Course I am working midnights for 4 days so may not be able to put the new one in till next week.

Order my other bearing - got a national brand one from rockauto. Will be interesting to see how long they last - expensive vs cheap.

I work at advance, and the national ones for our XJs are made in korea if anyone cares. I'd like to know where I can get some American made ones.

edit: at a good price... sure, I'll pay more than I likely would for a foregin made part, but I feel that we should support the economy, rather than paying foregin workers- essentially deporting our dollars.
