I kinda want to build a storage area for my trunk. So im looking for ideas.
So far here is the best one ive come across.
i like the open area on the right and the angled section on the left. i figure i could toss a second battery in there at somepoint for when i get a winch.
but ideas and suggestions are welcome
i will most likely try to make a writeup out of my trials
Several years ago I started working on one as I thought I just had to have it. I was going to have 1 large drawer at the bottom, than several on the side (like 2), than have an area to hide an onboard air system, and store a power invertor etc. I was going to build a few air gauges in it and a switch panel as well.
I started working on it, and quickly realized that it was going to be a pain to take it in and out all the time if I wanted to use my XJ as a "truck" as well. Which we do, quite often to move stuff around. It's nice to have the "storage", but a pain to have to move it. We ended up getting a large cargo box that we store everything in and than it is easily removed.
Here is the design I started on. It's only 1/4 built, but it gives you the idea of what I had in mind. I will say, invest in cardboard if you do start to to it, as thier are a TON of funky angle's and curves.
The void to the left was all going to be covered. I just needed a straight peice up to build sliding shelves off of.
OOOHHHHH... So long gone are the days when I THOUGHT I had enough room in my XJ to do this. Now, Pack 'N' Play, stroller, tool boxes and more take up my cargo area.
Please note: I would not trade my baby, my husband or his tools for the extra space. This just feels right now!
Brendan, I really do like the design of the one you posted. I think that would be a good way to go and still be able to fit in luggage or other junk if need be.
Good luck on the build and of course... POST UP PICS!!!
Oh, and don't forget to always keep that extra roll of T.P. handy!!!
