I know this topic has been discussed before, and yes Adam its still giving me trouble. Currently working on a 1995 sport for my wifes cousin. Got it at a good price with fairly low miles. However it has a rear main seal leak. I have gone through the process of replacing it twice with the same result. IT STILL LEAKS! My question is. Is there two different seals available? The reason I ask is the sales preson at local autoparts store asked me if it was a single or double lip seal. Now the seal I removed from the engine is a single lip, but PO also replaced it with no success of stoping leak. Possiably he used incorrect one buy using single lip type. My local Jeep dealer had no listing of two types of seals. I the end I really need to get this thing to stop leaking before the entire south east area of MI is covered in oil spots. Oh its leaving a spot about six inches in dia.

So I could use the double lip either way. Shoot, wish I asked that a while ago. What years came with the double lip seal? Cause I'm starting to think the engine is not the origanal.

I have a '97 post update (Oz model ) that I bought an OE seal for a couple of months ago - was packaged in Jan08 in Mexico - part# 04778126AB - single lip.
Is also the only seal listed in the OE parts manual
Would be very interested in details on this upgrade ... double lipped seal and its model application.
