So I'm spending the winter months at the drawing board finding upgrades for stuff that needs replaced on the XJ.
The rear brakes aren't wearing evenly, I think the axle lube that was leaking soaked into the drums (is metal really that porus? No leaks found since I replaced the axle seals, cleaned out the drums with brake cleaner and installed new shoes.).
I can find writeups all over online for the Dana 44s and non-c clip axles, and I'd like to find out if any flanges or welding or drilling that needs done is different. I'd like to have everything together so I can complete this in a day, maybe two.
Any help would be appreciated. -Matt

How much would it cost for the swap? I figured a day in the junkyard and a run to the parts store... but if it's pricey (over $100 for little junk plus pads and rotors) then I'll forget about it and wait until someday when I find a XJ d44. An AMC 20 is pretty decent as well, but rare.
Pic is what I believe to be a AMC 20 in local pick a part last year. It's probably been crushed by now, as they have a pretty quick turnover rate.
Thats not an AMC20. The 20 was never found in an XJ (which based on your pic, it's an XJ), and the AMC20 never had a tag on it, it's stamped on the housing itself.
Oh. The diff cover on this was round (including what's behind the wheel holding it up, but I'm not into getting under unsecured vehicles to get better shots), so just for trivia's sake, what is this?
edit: I think it's just a Mopar 8.25... compare to the pics here
