I had a friend that had a 2000 Grand Cherokee and when you closed the door the interior lights slowly dimmed and went off. Is there any way I can make the interior lights do that in my 2000 XJ? I figure it is only a different style of relay, is that correct?
Heres how its done. open the door, trun knob on dash counter clockwise till it clicks. close the door. At this point your int lights should be on still. Now turn knob clockwise S L O W L Y till lights are off. Pretty cool ehh???

Okay, Aaron... How do I get the interior lights to turn on when I open the rear hatch and/or the rear doors. Currently they only turn on when the front doors are open.
Yeah, smartypants... Let's see ya solve that mystery!

I think I might be able to solve that mystery. In my 2000 I can push up on the rear cargo light and shut all the interior lights off. I guess they did that so you could have the hatch open without running the battery down. Try pushing on the light again, and see if they come on.
I second on the push light , but make sure you push the light to turn off because if you dont next morning the little hamster in the wheel running will be dead because he was running in the wheel all night to keep the light on

I vaugly remember a long discussion about them having this function a long time ago on JF.
I "think" that thier is a box under the dash that controls this. I think what we detrimined was that the box goes bad, and the function does not work any longer. Someone replyed with the "how to" to make them turn on. I browsed the FSM and came up empty handed though.
Just off the top of my head here is how you can make your lights do the fade to black effect. You will have to do some experimenting but you can use a capacitor inline on the light output side. It will work with any light or output source as it will just backfeed thru to the rest of the lights. I am not sure how many microferads you will need because I do not know how many watts the lights draw or how many there are but I will get some more info and get back to the group. I beleive that the GC does this thru a box which controls the auto headlights ect.
