Front Skid Removal

A couple of quick questions for ya; 1) How difficult is it to remove the skid plate below the radiator (can I expect to be shearing off alot of bolts?), 2) If I decide to leave the skid plate off, will it weaken the front-end structurally? Seems like the thing is always right in the way whenever I need to get a good look at the underside of the front of the engine disbelief. This is an 01 XJ, and my DD, so off-road protection isnt that big of a deal. Thanks in advance!

I've always ditched them as they seem to get in the way more than they help; but thats just my opinion.

It's a straight forward job. Save all the hardware if you do take it off as it helps the re-sale value.

I have mine and it is very easy to remove.  I have never broken any bolts doing it(knock on wood).  I take mine off and put it on all the time.  Once you do it a couple of times, it get faster and doesn't take to long at all.  I would say take it off if it is in your way but keep it around if you change your mind later.

does it do much to protect stuff on trail runs, or are you (adam) saying you leave it off just for the street (or you have a better skid plate)?
