Aussie Lockers-are they for me?

Looking in possibly adding lockers to the XJ. My uncle runs I think Detroit lockers, but he removes/installs them more than I care to mention. My jeep is a weekend warrior. Lots of daily driving wand I plan on lifting it hopefully by next weekend. I already have the lift, wheels and tires. I would like to do lockers but on the other hand I like to play more than I do wrenching so detroits are out. Air lockers would be sweet but the cost is to rich for my blood. Does anyone run the Aussies? Is it worth the $500-$550 for this mod to only wheel a dozen times a year? Would I be adding extra stress to other drive line parts by doing/not doing this.  Or should I spend the money elsewhere for something much more needed. All thought and opinions are welcome. Thanks!

My rig set up is going to be 4.5" lift, 33" Maxxis Bighorns, 15x8 wheel 4" back space

The first order of business I think should be upgrading your rear axle. If I remember correctly you have a D35. Being you have a late model XJ your D35 will be a c-clip axle. I'd strongly talk you out of putting any money into the D35, let alone locking it. Try to find a 29 spline 8.25" or a D44 to swap in.

As for the Aussie's we sell alot of them and have never had a complaint to date. Personally for a daily driven rig I'd just lock the front D30 and be done with it. The amount of added traction offroad with having the front locked will be greatly noticable.

We won't get in the argument here about what axle should be locked first, but we always feel that the front is the best "bang for the buck"; especially in a daily driven rig.

But as for the Aussie's, best "lunchbox" locker on the market we feel. No stupid warranties about tire size like all the other manufactures have...

x2 on locking the front.  Esp. if like Motion says you have a 35 rear.   If I ever get around to locking my axles the front will be the first one for me.

I run stock gears and all, but seems that everything I heard aussies are a really good unit- here and elsewhere.

I know, I know,I'm all 'buy american'... It's all good though- no slave labor and unsafe conditins (like china, I did a big project on this a while back for school)  and I went to school with an aussie exchange student.  Really neat culture they have.

As  far as I know, the Aussie is made by Torq-Masters out of Rochester, NY.

All American.

Thier offices are in New York, the actual product is made in Australia. Thus the reason for 95% of the backorder issues with the Aussie...
