I was looking at my 93 the other day and I am just thinking about driving out the pin and using a bolt with a clevis pin on the end. I have a weather pack water proof end that I can use for quick disconnect.

THis is not as easy as you think.  I did something very simular to that on my '99, through much trial and error.  It is easier to do it like everyone else.   One thing I will say is that if you got a pin with the insert on the bottom it would probably work.  If you got pins with a handle or anything like that they will not fit in the door jam.
