Liftgate not opening

Well a couple days ago I closed my liftgate and now it will not open now. Any idea how to get it open and then figure out why it wouldn't open?

you can try to pop the cover off the inside of the trunk lid from the inside of the jeep and lubricate the latch

Pull or push down on black plastic piece while pulling on the latch.
Work's for me every time

It took me about 15-30 minutes... and I had a big ol sub box (which I don't use, it just sits there) to crawl over, as it's too big to come out of the side doors.  Removing the butt part of the back seat (I just stashed it on the roof of the XJ) and folding down the rear seatback is highly recommended since shoes are dirtier than they look.

 

/\ some of that is super obvious, but I'm not sure of your mechanical experience with Jeeps, cars, etc....
