Not really sure what's causing this, but it's not getting any better to say the least.

When taking off, when you hit the gas it stutters and acts like it wants to stall out. When you get going, it acts like the transmission is disengaging. It sort of loses it's power and the engine revs up in the 2-3k range vs. the normal 1.5k range. It seems like it's doing this more than it's driving normally.

So, I checked the oil level in the transmission. Says it's full, but it's brown. I'm sure it's not supposed to be brown. So, flush and a fill, drop the pan and clean it out. Change the gasket and filter?

Decided while I was at it to check the oil just to see how dirty it was from the last change. There are black specs all over in it and the top of the dipstick is RUSTY. What could cause a rusty dipstick?

If you pull the pan CHANGE the filter as well as get a Felpro 1-peice tranny pan gasket.

I'd check your TPS. Sounds to me that is what is causing it. More info here; http://www.greatlakesxj.com/tech/TPS.html

Also, doesn't do this when idling. I can sit in it and hold it at 2k RPM's and it doesn't stutter once.

In the link you posted, it shows a different connector from what has A, B, C and D on mine. You can see the circular one in the image in the link. That's where mine is labeled A, B, C and D.

Could be a # of things on the idle concern. What are the condition of spak plugs, boots, etc. That would be the first to check. Another fault could be possible vaccum leak. You could spray some fuel injection cleaner(carb cleaner) around vaccum sources and hoses and see if idle speed increases. Does your XJ throw any codes(check engine light) Take it to Auto Zone(they pull codes for free) to read code history if ecm has set any fault codes. IAC(Idle Air Control) sensor/motor if applicable on your model will play a big factor.

Theres a couple ideas for ya, its just kinda hard for me to diagnose/pinpoint concern via forum. I am sure some one on here with more tech experience with the Jeep brand will be of futher help. biggrin

top off your tranny! Jeep has a protection setup for the trannies that knock down engine speeds/loading to try and save the transmissions.

Plus these other guys have GREAT IDEAS should this not be the case.

You could clean out the throttle body...  Might help you a little.

I think that my XJ does this to, just on a very minor basis (maybe one time a month) and only in the first 30 seconds of having it out on the road.  I was told to clean the throttle body out, just haven't done it yet.

I though that the aisan-warner trans had no filter just a coarse screen to filter out the big chunks.
