4.0 Headers

my XJ must have known that I read your post because wouldn't you know it ,the header has a awful exhaust leak and now my gas mileage is just terrible, 207 miles on a tank , of course 196,000 miles on XJ , I blame ACI, LOL J/K

I am buying the headers tonight.  I will update as I get the thing back to road worthy.  It is killing me not driving it.  Haven't put 500 miles on it since the winter fest.  evileye

Well I got the headers in the mail today.  Hopefully have them on before the night hits.   Then all I have to do is have someone rig me up an exhaust to run off of them and the XJ should be in the best shape yet since I have owned it.  Can't wait, it makes me sad to see it sitting in the drive all day

Got it partially dissasembled and a guy I work with showed up out of the blue.  So we drank some beers and went swimming instead of finishing it... Such a nice day, was looking for a reason to not spend it in the garage.  Will finish tomorrow.

I don't know why I didn't think of this earlier but I didn't.  After looking at the header, there is no spot for the o2 sensor to plug in.  So do I just leave it unplugged?   Just wondering.  Also I am going to try and get MysticfireXJ's dad to bend me up a custom exhaust for this.  Should I get the other o2 sensor to plug into that?  I think that I am going to, I have the back o2 sensor unplugged right now and it hasn't been running very well, I think around 9mpg.  But that is just running to store really quick and back.

So back to the questions 1.How do I get the front o2 sensor to plug into the exhaust, or should I?   2. Should I get the back o2 sensor plugged back in on the new exhaust?

Ok, so now it is 3am and I am still up clicking around on Jeep forums... lol

I have a flowmaster MUFFLER sitting in the garage right now.  It is just the muffler nothing else.  I was going to just have new pipes welded up and be done with it.  Now I am wondering about the o2 sensors.  I was going to take the cat out and just weld the o2 sensor hole to the new pipes so that I could still use the sensor.  Now I am just wondering if I should just buy this exhaust.  LINK

I don't care about the sound, I just want the XJ to run good and efficient.  So would it work to weld the sensor in?  Or should I just get the correct exhaust?  I just want to get this sucker back on the road...

Also would that exhaust linked bolt up the header that I just purchased?

Man sucks that I am one of the few that are on here in the middle of the night.  To many questions to be answered by the morn.

I believe the exhaust linked is just a cat back. You would have to use your old pipe from the header to it. Yo would also have to remove the cat from it and weld in a piece of pipe to replace it. In the end you'll have a bunch of seams. My opinion is to stick with your orginal plan and install O2 bungs in you piping. Just weld them in at the locations they are currently at on the stock piping. As for the first O2, You may want to ask Adam what he thinks about placement.

I am an idiot.  The Flow Daddy header doesn't have a spot for the o2 sensor because the plug in for that is on the Down Pipe.  So that is solved.  Also had to buy a new down pipe because as I was taking off the old one, I descovered that it was pinched almost shut.  Don't know how long it has been like that but that couldn't have been good.

Also when taking the throttle body apart there was a bowl shaped piece of metal resting on top of the butterfly.  I have no clue what the PO was thinking when that was placed in there but WOW what an idiot.  So I am hoping that all of this will help make this sucker run a lot better.  Will be interesting to see how nice it runs once this is all done.

They header is in the engine and the intake manifold is back on.  Down pipe installed.  Just have to button up the rest and it will be ready for a loud test drive... lol  Should be done tomorrow.  Had family come over this afternoon so couldn't finish it up.

Just got it hooked up, header, down pipe, all new.  Go to turn it on and it goes straight to redline....evileye

I took the intake off and started it with the remote starter and the throttle body does not move.   So it is being forced gas, with no throttle movement.  I took off the new TPS and tried the old broken one and no change.  So I don't know what to do anymore.  Anyone have any brilliant ideas... I just want to drive this thing.cry

?? wow,... could be a couple things???? I'm assuming by redline ing you mean RPMs. Is the TB cable freely moving? TPS is some times an issue, but you have a new one? Any engine codes? I've never run into a problem like that. Sorry..

The TB cable appears to be moving freely.  And another reason that I don't think that is the problem is that the TB does not move at all when starting.   It is always closed.  Unless of course I push on the gas pedal.  I am out of ideas...

Luke has a '99 as well, I am going to see if he can come over and we can compair engine bays to double check that I have everything hooked back up properly.  Other than that I don't know....

And by redlining I mean that the RPMS get up to about 5k in less than a second and I shut it off.  Really sucks even more because there is only the header and a down pipe on it so it is REALLY LOUD!!!!
