Well it looks like my XJ is going to be gone tomorrow so I am now cleaning up shop for the new project rolling in.  I bought this combo a few months back, and now have no use for it.  They all came out of a 96 XJ and have 134,000 miles on the set.   The AC compressor is setup for OBA

$500 for everything

or will sell seperate:

$350 for motor
$125 for AW4
$80 for 231

All located in Valparaiso, IN

RE: 4.0 / aw4 /231

More updates....

Motor is a 95 - and here is some info from its previous owner:
FYI the motor is a 95 OBD one computer.
Ran like a top, it only needs a new harmonic balancer, squeaking loudly at idle. Transmission and TC shifted excellent. All three were well maintained by me. Has a new alternator, starter, belt. Transmission has a new NSS.

Castrol and a Purelator ONE #3001 filter every 3K. I forgot to mention I changed the 3 o-rings in the oil filter 90* adapter. Anyway if you got questions about it, send them my way. I got my 15K miles off of it.

Would the motor and trans work in a YJ?

It depends on what is currently in the YJ for it to be a direct bolt up. If its a FI 6cyl currently - yes it should (so I was told) be a direct swap. As for the tranny I am not sure personally, but have heard you can swap these in, but have no idea what kind of work is involved.

Overall it could work in any YJ setup but would depend on how much work you want to do. No computers with either my motor or tranny that I'm selling. There is some of the wiring harness in tact, but previous owner clipped the plugs off that would connect at fire wall.

The reason that I am asking is that I have a buddy with a YJ with a 4cyl and AX-5. The trans is going out and he has also be considering a 4.0 swap. I am trying to convince him to get it fixed asap.

I want to say the motor mounts have to be changed if you go from a 4cyl to a 6cyl on the YJ - I was thinking about keeping the motor and doing this same swap on a 4cyl YJ, and that is the info I found. You can make it work, but it make be more then just a simple swap without any mods. lol - its doable, just depends on how much work you and/or they want to do.
