I am trying to order a spider gear kit to fix a very annoying click in my front end. Very sure that is the problem as I found it after opening up the differential and listening with a stehtiscope. My problem is I am not 100% of what type of rear end it is. I own a 2000 jeep cherokee classic I found the following numbers on the differential cover plate Dana 40869-1 208-9 REV-9 110895. Does anyone know what rearend it is. I think it is a dana 35 but want to avoid buying the wrong part and prolong my not being able to drive the XJ. __________________

Replaced Spider gears and noise is still there. Should I replace the ring and pinion gear? Anyone out there in the northern illinois or southeast wisconson area able to come listen to the XJ to help me find the culprit affecting my XJ. __________________

Your first post said "rearend". However the photo's show a picture of your front axle; not the rear.

All XJ's had a Dana 30 front axle. You either have a Dana 35 or a Chrysler 8.25" rear axle.

Most likely it's not related to the spider gears and/or the ring pinion. If your sure it on the inside of the axle it's most likely the carrier bearings or the pinion bearing.
