If the majority of wheelin you do is mudding, longer shocks might not be needed. They can limit your flex, but that might not matter to you. Are they ones that came with a 3" lift? Or are they shorter? If shorter I would change.

You can get by with the old shocks but let me tell ya from experience that the 4.5 shocks will be better.  I just upgraded my shocks about 6 months ago because the 3" shocks bushings were going out.  Much more flex and much better ride.

I love them, they ride great.  They also flex a lot more, I know this because I thrashed my fenders my first time out with them because they travel so much more, so bumpstop before you disconnect the swaybar because you get what you pay for.   I would recomend them to anyone.

How would the Motion shocks compare to some of the "big names" OME and Bilstein?

The RE kits that we sell include a set of free set of standard twin tube shocks.

80% of the shocks on the market are all made at the same place. We just order them to our specs.

Comparing ours to say a set of OME's is like comparing apple's and oranges. Ours are made specifically for offroad use where something like an OME is geared more towards ride comfort.

I will compare all of the shocks that I have had on my XJ's for you.

'88 XJ with stock shocks:  Most of you have had these and know what they are like
Shocks that come with a Rough Country 3" Lift:  Just like the title, they are rough.  Considerably rougher than stock.
Shocks that come with a Rusty's 3" lift:  Much better than the Rough Country lift.  I would say comparable to stock ride quality.
Shocks that come with a RE 3" lift:  Better ride than the Rusty's but pretty comparable.
Motion Off Road 4.5" LT Shocks:  Best riding shocks that I have had.  With only 3 of them on the XJ (missing one shock on the rear axle) it rode slightly better than the RE shocks.  With all 4 of them on there it is night and day difference.  So much so that my wife, who doesn't ride in the XJ all that often noticed the difference from before with the RE shocks and with only having 3 LT MO shocks.

I would suggest anyone with RC lifts to pitch the shocks.  I think that most leafs are made the same so not much to change there, but there is def. a difference in shocks.
