disco d30 issues.....

I've got a disco d30 under the front of my 91 XJ, and it seems to be the cause of my "no 4WD" issue.   I don't think that the vac. motor is engaging properly.

I know I've found somewhere in the past tech articles about "pinning" the shift fork, so that the disco collar is engaged all the time, effectively turning the 2 piece shaft into a 1 piece shaft all the time.    Try as hard as I can, I can't seem to find those articles again.

Any help would be great....trying to get this thing up and running on zero budget before Jeep Jam on the 10th.   Thanks!

A few options to "fix" it.

1) Put a 1 piece shaft and block-off kit on your axle. If you want more info on this I'm happy to reply with that info...

2) Buy a 4x4 Posi-Loc kit. Your looking at almost $200 and in my opinion not really worth it.

3) Shim over the fork. It's VERY easy and cost less than $1 to do it. More info can be found here; http://greatlakesxj.activeboard.com/forum.spark?aBID=43793&p=3&topicID=29352993

I have used the shim over method on my '90 xj and am very happy with the results. Not to mention the price!!

With the D30 disco can you weld the spider gears and have a locked front axle when the fork is engaged. and then have decent road manners on the highway when disengaged, or will your front driveshaft always spin whether it is locked in or not?

I think that once you do the shim the front drive shaft is always spinning.

That is correct that once that fork is shimmed over that the shaft always spins.
