92 xj, Can't trace wiring problem......

So here's the run down, I bought a nonrunning 92 xj that died all of a sudden with what sounded like just a cps problem..... After purchasing it and replacing the crank position sensor, (which to my dismay had already been replaced, along with the cam position sensor, the ignition switch, the o2 sensor @ the exhaust, coil, cap, rotor, wires, and relays.... I've plugged in the crank ps and tested it with a metal object to see if the relays fire, and they do, scan codes keep reading 12, and 55..... So my final status is still that the computer is only giving the coil and fuel  pump power for the first 2 sec. and then shuts off, and I get no more spark..... Any thoughts or suggestions on how to further diagnose this little mystery???? What else can check and how?confuse

Does it turn over or nothing? If nothing than it's most likely your NSS (neutral saftey switch). If it turns over and just does not fire than it's most likely the Ballist Resistor on the inner fender. It's a ceramic piece that has a wire going to each side of it. Jump the 2 wires together and try to start it. If it fires and runs more than 10 seconds replace the resistor.

The resistor that he is talking about is about the 3 inches long.  It looks like a long LEGO.  Should be grey.  If I recal it is towards the top of the fender up at the front of the Engine bay by the headlights.

Ok,  so a little progress.... I'm  getting a light spark now from the coil which I hadn't noticed before.. I turns over still with all the intentions of firing up but never quite makes it. Another thing I've noticed is that as soon as you turn the key to start the temp gauge shoots all the way to the other side like its grounding out. The temp sensor @ the back of the block in front of the cps has been broke off, isn't even attached to the manifold any more, so I put a light tester on that wire and low and behold its getting power from somewhere.... I traced that same (purple w/ yellow stripe) wire to the computer harness, plugged in the light tester again (to what I could only assume is the same wire) and it made my fuel pump turn on.... and run... why, I do not know.confuse So my situation is currently, light spark with little visible arc, temp gauge shorts when the key is turned to the 'on' position, engine turns over with good intentions but no follow threw. Not sure if the two wires I checked are both the same or change @ some mystery junction. I ran out of time this evening (i know, Its just an excuse) to dig deeper, so I was hoping some of you might be able to help me out a little..... .  .    . Thank you for reading.

If you go to our tech page you can download the factory service manual for a 93.  Can't be to different from a 92.  Here is the link:   LINK

So the purple and yellow thermo sensor wire that came from the block happens to tie into the ignition switch on top of the steering column (tab indicated g2 in upper right portion of the I.S.) (I know because I physically traced it there all the way from the block.). Why it lights up my tester or makes the gauge spaz out when I turn the key all the way on, or if this has anything to do with the big picture in general, I do not know. But the ignition switch that is in there now is new. (I'm staring at the old one right now.) I'm getting a little lost here now, but it has fuel, air, and a little spark (not a lot just a little.) I"m not sure where to go from here.

is your coil to spec (they should have a way to test it with an ohm-meter)?

Also, old school mechanic living next to my buddy said those ballast resistors go out a lot so keep a spare in the glovebox.
