DISCUSSION NEEDED - GLXJ Rig Event Guidlines

Due to some recent happenings with another club's "accidents" it has been quickly brought to my attention that we need to put together a GLXJ Rig Event Guidlines and start enforcing it on a regular basis. In no way do I want to try to exclude anyone and their rigs; however safety needs to be top priority with any GLXJ event.


So I'd like to open it up for discussion as to what "rules" you'd like to see put into effect for this so we can put together an official list.

To get the discussion started I'll bring up a few things we've tried to promote in the past...

1) Tow Strap. No chains and no straps with hooks on the end.
2) Recovery Point. Either front tow hooks or rear hitch.
3) No CB whips. They become projectiles while in the woods.


Of course I was being brief with each one and we'll go into more detail in the official list. Would like to discuss possible other "rules" that you as a GLXJ member would like to see.

I have read on a couple off road park websites that seat belts are required on their trails.

I know that it seems like common sense, but I will be the one to say it:

4. Absolutely no drinking while on Trails.

I see first hand the imparement every day at work and could not even imagine putting rig through rigorous and difficult trails with delayed reaction.  Save the beer for the bon fire that night.  I will even drink one with ya.

Also, I don't know what other Club accidents are being referenced and inspired this thread, but I take it that someone held a Club responsible for some one riding in thier event that was doing something illadvised?

I wonder what happened... did some spotter get drunk and have the driver aim the rig over the edge of a steep ravine?

I also wonder if there is a prudent way to secure cb whip antennas (bungee cord? use a tennis ball for visibility and hope people stay out of the 'strike zone'?) while on trails.  Gosh that would be horrible to get hit by one...

a tether strap for a whip antenna! hahaha no seriously though, the day we went to Attica-I don't think we were outta line doin anything, we all had recovery gear, tools, spare wheels, and non-alcoholic beverages and proper antennas...I was set up pretty good for not knowing what to have and bring-all I would want to add is something about being responsible while on the "wheeling" property, off road parks-whatever u want to call them-just being respectful and responsible to the property we are at is key to keeping the few places we have open.

I was just looking for ideas.

I plan on putting a list together in the upcoming weeks when I have some free time and will post what I come up with for everyone to see what they think. We'll probably than make a post with a vote that will allow you to vote YES or NO for a set period of time.

If anyone else has any idea's feel free to post them here or email me directly.

The time period vote being for the next event? Cus I can't wait. I just hope I can afford the gas to go.

/\ YES!!! do not go wheeling without recovery points. Its bad enough tugging people out of snowbanks with no recovery points!

haha that was a one time thing. now i have front and rear. if i were to do it again i'd get recovery points even before i put a lift on my rig
