No v8 ZJ bars at the factory that day, so they used what they had.

Swaybar diameter

Long time no see!  I've been busy watching 3 houses as the family is off on their own vacation since I've gotten back from the honeymoon.

So I was at the boneyard the other day to get myself a v8 ZJ front swaybar.smile

Out of curiosity before removing it I measured it with the trusty ol tape measure, and it was 1" in diameter.  If I remembered right, that's the same size as the stock unit on my XJ.confuse

So I find a XJ nearby and measure the diameter of its front swaybar... 1 inch.confuse

I go to a six cylinder ZJ and once again... 1 inch.hmm

No other v8 zj was in the boneyard that day, and I'm not sure if the stock one was replaced with a XJ swaybar (from an accident or something maybe), if it was done at the factory (no v8 swaybars laying around when it came down the line), or what.

I guess I'll stick with the stock swaybar.  Sure beats no swaybar though.

(for reference when buying bushings, keep in mind that 25.5mm=1 inch)

The XJ came with about 5 different swaybars (sizes) based on the model year. The only real way to know what size you have is to measure. I often tell customers to take an open in wrench and slide over it. That is the easiest way to measure what size you have to figure out bushings.

Even if your XJ has a 1" swaybar; the ZJ V8 swaybar is still better. The ZJ V8 bar is 27mm.

The XJ swaybar is a hollow tube; the ZJ V8 swaybar is solid stock. You will see an improvement going to the ZJ V8 bar even though they are the same size.

I had to take my sway bar to the parts store with me to try the different bushings to see what i liked. I wish i could remember what size it was. But like adam said. There are a few. When i told them the xj, year and all the other specs. They still had no idea. But i like the idea of a V8 zj sway bar. I might have to go find one

Hmmm... well off to searchin' for a v8 zj in the boneyard (they seem to be rare around here, but XJs it reminds me of cash for clunkers- tons of the lil things) to steal the swaybar from again.

Found a guy on another site with a 96 ZJ ... no info on engine, so we'll see if it's a v8.
