I just picked up a 93 xj. the guy i bought it from smashed the gas tank on a rock at bundy, so he swapped in a fuel cell and an in-line electric fuel pump and now it wont start. I am getting fuel up to the fuel rail and I am getting spark to the plugs, but wont start. was wondering if anybody could give me some advise?
check your fuel pressure it should be at least 50 psi I don't remember the exact specs but I doubt a regular inline plump will deliver the pressure needed. There is only about 10 psi variance allowed for the injectors to fire properly.
Ok I changed my fuel pump now getting around 60psi of fuel pressure, getting really good spark, changed crank position sensor, and it is acting like the timing of way off gets hard spots when cranking over. Any suggestions on what to look for?
When you say has hard spots, is it cranking over slow? It might be something like your starter drawing to many amps or something. It is simple to pull out and have tested.

I miss the days that they made toys that could kill a kid.
well i was told it could be the crank sensor so i changed that and still have the same problem. When i unplug the sensor the motor cranks over fast like it shoud but when i plug it back in it starts out fast then gets hard spots then fast agin then hard spots. i am going to pull distributor cap and make sure everything is right there and the it is not off a tooth or 2.
