Clamshell spring compressor/XJ coils

Anyone ever used this type of spring compressor?  Would it work on an XJ front end?  Looks a whole lot safer than the standard type of compressor.

How about the spring compressor they sell at Quadretec for $44, is it $30 better than the one's they sell at Harbor Freight?  I've used one from Harbor Freight, and while it worked, it isn't the safest thing around.

Is Kim going with a bigger lift? Don't tell me I rubbed off on ya T H A T bad!

Is this the set your refering to?

Let me know when your gonna install that new lift (cause I know your getting one), and I may be able to come to Indy for the weekend to help out. I've also got a full shop full of tools, so if ya need anything let me know and I can bring it along.

Yes, that's the one I'm refering to.  Is it a better set up than the cheaper one's?  I hate when they slide around the spring.

Do you have any experience with the clamshell type?  There are several of them on ebay, but I'm not sure they would fit around the hub/knuckle.  They do look a lot safer though.

Only benifit I see over these than the "cheaper" ones is the saftey pin. Looks like it locks around the spring so it has less of a chance to fly off. I'm not sure why these compaired to another set would be less prone to slide around on you. I doubt that the pin does much for the sliding to be honest with ya. Just disconnect the LCA and you won't have to compress it much at all. Just my worth.

I do have a buddy with a nice lift in Decatur in his garage, you could always come up this way and it would be a heck of a lot easier on the lift.

Those are the compressors that I just used to do my lift and they worked well. I got borrowed them from Autozone' they will let you use them for free. There is a deposit but they give it back to you when you return them.

That is exactly what I did and they worked great.  No problems at all.  If you go to ask for them at AutoZone, they refer to them as "strut compressors" ,  might save you some confusion. Good luck to you!
