Shimming the LCA's

Everyone here knows I've been fighting a wandering problem ever since I mounted the TrXus tires.  The alignment shop reset the toe, and that helped alittle.


Today I made a set of 1/8" shims and installed them behind the lca's.  It helped, no it practicly eliminated the wandering.  I guess what there is left is from the MT tires.  It felt very stable on the interstate.  Nothing remotely like what I've been experiencing.  There is no bump steer, or DW.


I tried reducing the tire pressure, that made it worse.  I did increase the psi, and that seemed to help some.  This I did before I installed the shims.


I am running 40 psi right now, and I ran it over some chalk, and only the outer 1/4-1/2" of the outer lug has no chalk on it.  They still have the tits on them, so they weren't contacting the road with 34 psi either.  I don't really notice it riding any rougher with 40 psi.


So all in all a productive day for me!

Ok, here you go.


First one shows the slot in the LCA frame mount.  Notice where the LCA bolt WAS by looking at the paint.



I made a set of 1/4" shims, and it helped even more.  The shim is between the frame mount, and the U shaped bracket behind the LCA.  The bracket has the 2 threaded studs sticking out from the rear of the LCA frame mount.  Back the nuts off, and loosen the bolt on the LCA, and pry the arm forward, and insert the shim.  I found that you cannot insert any shim thicker than 1/4", you run out of slot on the frame mount.


BTW, I reduced the tire pressure back down to 34 psi.  Made no difference.  The tire pressure was NOT causing the wandering problem.
