Motor options
(Preview)
Well I think mine is finally getting tired - oil pressure getting ill, lifters are rattling at first on startup, and seems pretty doggy with 4.56 gears at times. I have been debating a rebuild vs buying different / new motor. Any good places that sell reman or new motors for an affordable price? I am a...

Liftgate how-to
(Preview)
1. remove inner panel of tailgate... you'll need one or two big flat blade screwdrivers to help pry the retaining clips off. Mine also had a couple screws holding it on, and of course the ones for the center brake light. So you'll need a phillips (+ shaped) screwdriver as well. 2. press latch where I a...

I am looking into getting a "pop up" camper. I just wanted to know if my XJ will have any difficulties(example: D35 blowing up) towing one. I am running 3.55 gears and 33" tires. I know I will have to get the longer ball attachment to level the trailer out some while towing. I would just li...

Roof Rack Rain Gutter Mounts
(Preview)
Hi, I am thinking of buying a few sets of rain gutter mounts for the Jeep and building my own roof racks from wood, perhaps a decent hardwood with a nice grain. I will use metal crossbars for support under the box. I would like to recess some lights into the "safari style" rack (both front and re...

fuel tank removal...

So, I'm thinking of replacing the stock fuel tank (especially if I end up mangling the thing if the old fuel pump doesn't 'turn' like it's supposed to... brings back memories of mangling the heck out of the donor jeep fuel tank.) There's these long bolts hanging from the belly of the Jeep that hold the st...

So my best friend picked up an XJ today... On the way home oil pressure gauge went to zero... he pulls over, and calls the towtruck. Front Skid Removal

A couple of quick questions for ya; 1) How difficult is it to remove the skid plate below the radiator (can I expect to be shearing off alot of bolts?), 2) If I decide to leave the skid plate off, will it weaken the front-end structurally? Seems like the thing is always right in the way whenever I need to get...

Rear Vs. Front Axle Diff Lubricant
(Preview)
I need to change the lubricant for both the rear and front axles. The FSM tells me that I need to use SAE 80W-90 gear lubricant. However for trailer tow what is needed is SAE 75W-140 SYNTHETIC lubricant. The tag on my rear diff also corresponds to the part number for the SAE 75W-140. I am in the meantime b...

How To: Crankshaft Position Sensor

So your Jeep wont' start all of the sudden and you're confused. Well, it just might be your crankshaft position sensor. I did this in the late summer of, um, 2007 I think. Ok, as you can see here: Click they installed it so it's on the side, and I've seen many bumpers with the side mounts as well. I was just wondering as to whether or not there was any real benefit to two side mounts versus a single d-ring receiver in the middle of the bumper?
